The head of Kolatan Village Municipality in the Masalli district, Rauf Jabiev, has brought a legal case against the journalist Jafar Jafarov. The municipal chairman is seeking a prison sentence for the journalist on charges of defamation and insult. In recent months, Jafarov has published articles alleging corruption and unlawful activities within Kolatan Village Municipality. He maintains that everything he wrote is true. According to him, the municipal chairman is attempting to silence him — and other critical journalists — through the courts.
