Ganimat Zahid, editor-in-chief of the newspaper Azadliq and a well-known journalist living in France, has been summoned by Azerbaijan’s General Prosecutor’s Office. A criminal case was launched against him several months ago on charges of “open calls against the state, committed repeatedly or by a group of persons” (Article 281.2 of the Criminal Code). Zahid has been called to the Prosecutor General’s Office’s Main Investigation Department on 24 November to review the indictment. According to the Prosecutor’s Office, the Sabail District Court has issued a four-month detention order in absentia against the journalist.
