Tbilisi City Court has fined TV Pirveli journalist Giorgi Mamniashvili GEL 3,000 (approximately EUR 965) for “petty hooliganism” and “disobeying police orders”. Mamniashvili was detained on 22 November while covering an anti-government protest. He was filming officers as they arrested demonstrators when he himself was taken into custody. TV Pirveli later released footage from his phone, recorded during his detention, in which he can be heard telling police that he is a journalist carrying out his professional duties. He said that he also showed officers his press card.
