Ganimat Zahid, editor-in-chief of the newspaper Azadliq and a well-known journalist living in France, has been summoned by Azerbaijan’s General Prosecutor’s Office. A criminal case was launched against him several months ago on charges of “inciting opposition to the state.” The Prosecutor’s Office has announced that the preliminary investigation is now complete. Zahid has been called to the Prosecutor General’s Office’s Main Investigation Department on 24 November to review the indictment. According to the Prosecutor’s Office, the Sabail District Court has issued a four-month detention order in absentia against the journalist.
