Sergey Markelov, a US-based Russian journalist has been placed under criminal investigation for failing to adhere to 'foreign agent' laws (according to part 2 of Article 330.1 of the Criminal Code). A warrant was issued for his arrest. He was a former contributor to 'Sever.Realii', '7x7' and 'Novaya Gazeta'. Markelov was one of the first 5 people to be designated as a 'foreign agent' by the Ministry of Justice in December 2020.
