Pegasus spyware developed by the Israeli company NSO Group was used to spy on politicians, activists, journalists and human rights activists from over 50 countries. In a published investigation, OCCRP noted that several journalists and activists from Kazakhstan were surveillance targets, including Serikzhan Mauletbay, Bigeldy Gabdullin and online activist Bakhytzhan Toregozhina.
