On February 12, the Shymkent court of appeal overturned the decision of the Specialized Interdistrict Court for Administrative Offences to dismiss the libel case against Marina Nizovkina, the journalist of Atameken Business. The court found the journalist guilty of libel and fined her KZT 621,000 (about USD 1,300). The process was initiated at the request of the first deputy head of the Shymkent Police Department, E. Abdramanov, for two posts published on Marina Nizovkina’s personal Instagram account. The court ruling may be reconsidered in cassation.
