The accounts of Radio Tbilisi were frozen on 25 June. According to Ramaz Samkharadze, the station is currently in the process of renewing its broadcasting license. He acknowledged the existence of a longstanding tax debt but noted that it had not previously caused operational issues. Samkharadze suggested the account freeze may be politically motivated, linking it to a recent critical social media post he made about a Georgian Dream official. “For years the tax debt was never an issue. Yesterday I published a critical post — today, inkaso. Everything is connected,” Samkharadze wrote. In recent weeks, numerous activists and journalists in Georgia have reported being fined or detained after criticising government officials online, raising concerns about increasing pressure on dissenting voices.
