Journalist Rashad Ramazanov, who is being held at Penitentiary Institution No. 11, has reported that he was subjected to torture. He made this public in a letter, in which he stated that he was beaten by the head of the institution, Shakir Ganiyev, and that Ganiyev threatened him with death. Ramazanov was detained on 2 May 2022. He was convicted on drug-related charges and sentenced to five years and four months’ imprisonment. The journalist and his lawyers maintain that the charges against him were fabricated.
