The Georgian National Communications Commission has launched administrative proceedings against Kavkasia TV, a television channel known for its criticism of the government, over a donation received from a supporter in the United States. The Commission has given the company three days to provide an explanation. According to the channel’s director, Kavkasia TV has been seeking financial support from its audience due to ongoing financial difficulties. She stated that the sum in question, which prompted the proceedings, “would only cover the cost of a lunch”. Under current legislation, television broadcasters and other media outlets are prohibited from receiving funding from foreign sources.
