Abdukodir Muminov, a blogger and author of the YouTube channel Ko’zgu (Mirror) with 240,000 subscribers, was arrested on suspicion of fraud (Article 168 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Uzbekistan) and extortion (Article 168 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Uzbekistan). In October 2021, the blogger, at a meeting with a certain citizen in the Jizzakh Region, made an agreement on the non-distribution of a video discrediting his company. He allegedly asked for USD 70,000 to keep the information secret. The blogger criticized the authorities and intended to create a new political party. In December 2022, he was attacked in Tashkent by five unknown assailants armed with bats. Muminov was allegedly beaten with fists and hit with a bat when his car was attacked. The perpetrators have not yet been found, even though there is video footage of the incident.
