Journalist Eka Kukhalashvili, along with eight others, was fined GEL 5,000 (USD 1,790) each by the Kutaisi City Court. They were charged under Article 174 of the Criminal Code, which addresses violations of assembly rules. On January 24, the group organised a protest outside the home of Judge Malkhaz Okropirashvili, who was set to review the appeal of Mzia Amaghlobeli, the founder of Netgazeti and Batumelebi newspapers. Amaghlobeli faced criminal charges for allegedly slapping a police officer and had been placed in pretrial detention. However, Judge Okropirashvili declined to consider her case in the Appeals Court.
