It has been reported that the imprisoned blogger Elvin Isayev has been removed from Penal Institution No. 10, where he had been held since 18 December, and taken to an unknown location. This information was provided by his relatives. According to his family, Isayev was not informed in advance of the transfer. They also allege that he was not transported in a standard prison convoy vehicle. Reports further indicate that Isayev began a hunger strike while in custody and was subsequently placed in a punishment cell. His relatives claim that he is being held in inhumane conditions and has been denied basic hygiene items and adequate clothing. Elvin Isayev is known for publishing posts critical of corruption and the authorities in Azerbaijan. He was deported from Ukraine to Azerbaijan in 2019. He was later charged with “calls against the state” and sentenced to eight years’ imprisonment.
