As part of the Abzas Media case, investigative journalist Hafiz Babali, who has been sentenced to nine years in prison, has had his disability pension account frozen. The information was shared on the journalist’s official Facebook page. A post made on Babali’s behalf stated that, at the time of his arrest, all of his bank accounts, including his pension account, were frozen: “However, according to the law, it is inadmissible to place a freeze on pension accounts.” According to Babali, his pension account has remained blocked for more than a year: “On 14 October, through my lawyer, formal petitions were submitted to both the Baku Court of Grave Crimes and the Baku Court of Appeal requesting that the account be unblocked. Yet, to this day, no response has been received, nor has any action been taken.”
