Tbilisi City Court fined Mariam Kavshbaia GEL 5,000 (1,825 USD) for "artificially blocking the road" on Rustaveli Avenue on 3rd of February. This measure is a recent amendment to the legislation aimed at suppressing protest but Interior Ministry has been using this sanction against journalists too. Over 20 journalists have been fined up until now. Most of these are appealed in court and cases are dragged in time. Despite presenting evidence that she was on her journalistic duty, judge didn't take it into consideration and left the fine in force.
