Judge expelled journalist Mindia Gabadze from a hearing involving an activist detained during recent anti-government protests. The judge removed Gabadze after the journalist questioned why he was barred from covering the trial, despite having submitted a request for access. The judge claimed Gabadze failed to comply with the rule requiring requests to be made at least one hour in advance. However, the hearing was scheduled less than an hour before it began, making it impossible for Gabadze to meet that requirement. Gabadze regularly reports on trials of activists facing criminal charges and has recently noted what he describes as deliberate obstacles preventing him from continuing this coverage.
