Russia’s Justice Ministry has designated Reporters Without Borders (RSF), an international NGO dedicated to the protection of journalists and headquartered in Paris, as an “undesirable organization.” The ministry announced the move on August 14, stating that the decision had been taken on July 23. RSF called the designation “a recognition of RSF’s entire body of work, from the exfiltration of Russian journalists to the Svoboda satellite broadcasts” — the distribution of banned media via satellite. RSF has no presence inside Russia. In April 2024, Roskomnadzor blocked RSF’s website in Russia.
