The Khatai District Court in Baku has ordered the release of Toplum TV journalist Shahnaz Beylyargizi to house arrest, while sentencing Aziz Orujov, the chair of Kanal 13, to two years in prison. Orujov's sentence, which was extended, stems from his arrest in November 2023 on charges of constructing a house without a permit. He has been detained since then and is expected to serve his sentence until the end of the year. In December 2023, he was also charged with smuggling, but those charges were later dropped.
