Journalist Shamshad Agha has been detained as a suspect in the Meydan TV case. He is charged with committing acts under Article 206.3.2 (smuggling by prior agreement by a group of persons) of the Criminal Code of Azerbaijan. "At around 2 AM, an investigator accompanied by 7-8 masked police officers knocked on our door. When we opened the door, they stormed in and began searching the house. They confiscated Shamsad's old phone, my phone, memory cards, several old disks, a computer, a modem, and Shamsad’s press credentials. They then drew up a protocol. Shamsad only mentioned that he was being detained and did not specify the charges," journalist's brother Shahid Agayev told Voice of America. On July 5 2024, Shamshad Agha was questioned as a witness at the Baku City Chief Police Department in relation to the Toplum TV case. Authorities verbally informed him of a travel ban, barring him from leaving the country.
