On 7 December 2024, police in Tbilisi arrested the journalist and anchor Beka Korshia from the TV channel Mtavari Arkhi and held him in custody on charges of disobedience to law enforcement. The following day, he was brought to court, released, and fined GEL2,200 (€745). After his release, Korshia reported having been physically assaulted, though not as severely as other detainees. “The situation was so extreme that anything I might say about what happened to me would seem insignificant and irrelevant by comparison,” he said. Korshia also noted that during his custody, the police primarily questioned him about news reports he had previously prepared. The journalist has exposed numerous instances of alleged corruption.
