Asia-Plus News Agency was forced to refrain from publishing news about the events in the Gorno-Badakhshan Autonomous Region of Tajikistan. The situation in the administrative centre of the region, the city of Khorugh, has again escalated – on May 16, representatives of the local population tried to gather for a rally in the centre of Khorugh, but law enforcement authorities prevented this. One man died, and three others were injured. Under the threat of closing down, the agency cannot fully cover these events. Earlier, Asia-Plus received an official warning from the General Prosecutor's Office and unofficial warnings from other government agencies that the publication was «unilaterally» covering the events in the region and «destabilising the situation in the country». Asia Plus was ordered to «correct the mentioned flaws» or face closure.
