The police detained Maria Hryts when she was covering a women's protest march in the centre of the city. She was taken to the police department and drawn up a report on violation of the law on mass events (Article 23.34 of the Code of Administrative Offences of the Republic of Belarus). Hryts was held in the detention centre for two days until the trial, despite it contradicting the law — Maria has a young child. On September 28, the court fined Maria Hryts 20 basic amounts but left her in custody till the next day —it turned out that another administrative report was drawn up on her in the detention centre for disobedience to the demands of police officers. On September 29, the court sent the second case back for revision, and the journalist was released.
